Dilema! In set TARDIS from Doctor Who (set 21304) you get 1 TARDIS and 2 Doctors! Noooooooo… What to do?
Ok, so dramatics aside, it felt only right that each Doctor get his own TARDIS. If you’ve seen my 1st TARDIS mod, then you know I pulled off the panel undersides, effectively giving me another console to play with.
I wanted to match some of the features of the official set, but also add more abstract, colourful controls.
The console’s view-screen again emanated from the time rotor column, but looks far less like a TFT or earth-based display. The telepathic circuit and main drive lever also follow the model although vary in style. I also wanted the time rotor to look a little more free-standing and mechanical, so it widens out at the top and bottom.
You can see above a top-down view with the time rotor removed.
Rather than a door, this TARDIS has direct steps that fold up for when the TARDIS is travelling. The rest of the platform’s look is pretty similar (side consoles, railings and 6 console panels), however structurally this model is very different to the official version. I simply didn’t have another six of those clip bars in the middle, so this has two sets of three panels weaved into each other, with the structure for one set below the other. The console therefore goes down into a ‘pit’ in the deck.
