Before I pulled apart the official TARDIS set (again), I wanted to play with a few more variations on the centre console and time rotor. One of the great things about a TARDIS and the Doctor Who universe is that it is very versatile and frequently changes. In this mod, I wanted to play with the idea that a battle-hardened TARDIS would have a more intricate and more enclosed time rotor.
You can see that the rotor is effectively encased, but thins at the top with support struts leading to the ceiling. To accomplish this I had to simplify the railings and side consoles, however I left the centre console undisturbed. You can see a few more views below.
Adding the nodules near the top of the main rotor, for me, gave a cool industrial effect that really bulked up the rotor and made it far more interesting as a centrepiece. I then used left over parts from the original rotor design to make a larger viewing display that looked perfect for containing a holographic projection.
Finally, as a mod of my mod, I altered the rotor to see what it would look like in the classic, free-standing style.
The flattened design looks good in of itself and really opens the set up. Plus, I always have a soft spot for any classic TARDIS throwbacks, so I have to admit a little bias on this one.
