The hovercar repair shop is an alternate build of the Lego® Star Wars 75140 Resistance Troop Transport. I built this model for a few reasons. Namely, at the time I wanted to explore the possibility of making instructions for alternate builds as a business. Quick plug here: if you like free building instructions for cool sets, check out my Downloads page. Now, back to the model.
The hovercar repair shop features a hovercar, two repair bots and lots of grarage accessories, such as tools and a radio. You can see the car itself below (left) and the sled it sits on (right).
The car fits a standard minfig, held in by the console. The car and the robots were great fun – trying to build detail and believability within the constraints of just the pieces in the set. The second robot also features my first (and maybe only) illegal build manoeuvre, with a 1 x 2 tile held into clips at the back. Particularly these days, I’m not a fan of illegal building techniques. Lego® bricks just don’t seem to be as sturdy as they were in the last millenium, so illegal manoeuvres fatigue them really quickly.
The accessories felt key to brigning this model to life; making the car shop look used. I fashioned a tool rack (at the back) fencing pieces and added a tilting spotlight at the top. Below you can see the back bench with a camera, magno-spanner and manifold section. The original stickers also added great detail to the build, showing just how well themed they were to the original set.
